"A Christmas Song" by Frances Virginia Thomas (1896)

A Christmas Song.

BY F. V. T.

The Christmas bells ring out again;

        Our thoughts go back to days gone by—

We see Judea's ancient plain

        And "glittering hosts bestud the sky."

We see the shepherds, list the song

        The herald angel sings, and then

We hear the bright angelic throng

        Chant, "Peace on earth, good will to men!"

Though centuries have passed away,

        That song remains as new as when

The listing shepherds heard the lay,

        "Peace, peace on earth, good will to men!"

The tale is told each Christmas morn;

        From mountain top to deepest glen

Is heard the tidings, "Christ is born!

        Peace, peace on earth, good will to men!"

The song rings glad from heav'n to earth,

        From earth to heav'n rings back again;

"All hail, all hail the Savior's birth!

        Peace, peace on earth, good will to men!"
